The game is a co-operative third-person shooter in which four players fight against massive hordes of zombies in seven locations, including New York, Jerusalem, Moscow, Tokyo, Marseille, Rome and Kamchatka. Each location, or episode as it is known in-game, is divided into 3-5 individual levels. After completing a level, players receive “supplies” based on a resulting defeat or victory. Supplies can be used to upgrade weapons and unlock new attachments. Perks can be bought for specific classes using supplies.

Humanity is on the brink of extinction. From New York to Moscow and Jerusalem, the undead apocalypse continues to spread. As the end looms, a hardened few bands together to defeat the horde and outlive the dead. World War Z is a heart-pounding co-op third-person shooter for up to 4 players featuring swarms of hundreds of zombies. Based on the Paramount Pictures film, World War Z focuses on fast-paced gameplay while exploring new storylines from around the world. Battle swarms of hundreds of zombies – the Swarm Engine™ seamlessly renders hordes of zombies in incredible firefights. Advanced gore systems offer gruesomely satisfying action. Co-op story-driven campaigns – survive around the world, as unique groups tell their stories of perseverance. Fight other players for survival – several intense Player vs Player vs Zombies game modes complement the co-op campaigns. Grow stronger – unlock powerful weapon upgrades and level 16 character classes to take on greater challenges.

Now while the story itself is just a normal zombie apocalypse story, it’s a bit more unique as there are four different chapters (without counting the DLC) that take place in different parts of the world. This makes it so there are many different environments and it isn’t just the same level copied. It also follows different stories and characters in each chapter, though when selecting your class you can also change your character. It doesn’t affect the story and is just a cosmetic change but it’s nice that you’re able to do so in the story mode.

“I was just screaming in his face. I’m sorry, dad,” Freeman said, laughing. “He’s been there since I was a little boy, throwing batting practice to me every day. So this is a moment, it’s my dad’s moment.”
